Talkdesk Spotlight Series call center software

Every once in a while, we like to celebrate some of the amazing people who make the Talkdesk team tick. Today, we’re putting the spotlight on Global Channel Manager Sam Nelson. She took the time to answer a few questions for the blog, so read on to find out more about one of Talkdesk’s best.

What made you want to join Talkdesk?

I wanted to work for a company that positioned itself as a game changer. Talkdesk is exactly that. It changes the way people communicate and how call centers are perceived. It’s literally something that people “Ooh” and “Aah” about when you show it to them, especially those who are very familiar with legacy providers (boxes, wires and coding, oh my!). Talkdesk inspires that “lightbulb” experience when someone realizes really is a better way to do this.

What’s your favorite part about working here?

The people. Definitely the people. Everyone is open to sharing his/her techniques on how to do something and I find myself learning new things every day. Talkdesk colleagues are always engaging and open to new ideas across different teams as well. When you’re in need of a resource, it’s an awesome feeling to know that someone is always willing to help.

What are you afraid of?

Pigeons. Watch me walk down Market Street. I’m a nervous wreck the entire time. Walking just a few blocks feels like a journey through a battlefield. I’m pretty sure the pigeon mafia has a hit on me because I can accurately say I’ve been attacked at least once a week for the past year.

What would you do if you had enough money to not work?

Hands down, I would give half of my time to the Humane Society. I used to volunteer there a while back and there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing you’ve made an animal’s day with a few belly scratches or a quick walk. The other half of my time would be very much dedicated to my own three Labrador retrievers at home!

What are you best at?

I truly believe that I’m the best at getting a custom food order right. To set the stage, my husband’s entire family can’t stand cilantro but they absolutely LOVE Baja Fresh. We get together on Friday nights and that’s usually the go-to dinner for the whole family. Despite many attempts to order 10 plates without cilantro, my in-laws were ready to give up. My newfound ability to order 10 different cilantro-less dishes has been life-changing, so I’ve been the Friday night “ordering person” since a couple of months ago. I even made friends with the owner and employees who work there. One time they invited me behind the counter to take a selfie and to watch them make all the dishes without any cilantro. There should be an award for this kind of thing!
